The Technical Sessions at PMTS were an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest technologies from the most respected experts in the Industry.

8:15  – 9:15 am

Floor Demonstration with Index Corporation – Booth 400
Advancements in quality and productivity are what Index Corporation is focusing on to make North American shops more competitive. Klaus Voos will provide a floor demonstration of the new technology and capabilities available in today’s high precision machinery. Two state of the art turning machines will take center stage in this interactive floor session.

Hard Turning – Conference Room E161-162
Hard turning is a challenging new area for our industry. This session will review the what, when and why of hard turning. The advantages of hard turning and the machine requirements to assure success, including workholding, tools and tool holding, and achievable tolerances will be discussed. Let Tom Sheehy of Hardinge Inc. show you how to achieve the tolerances and surface finishes mandated by your customer.

Oil Cost Control – Conference Room E170-172
Harold Jackson of Northwest Oil Co. and Jim Fetcko of Ohio Screw Products, Inc. will use a case study approach to discuss how to intelligently source and manage your shop’s oil purchases. This session will give an understanding of how to reduce both risk and costs of this valuable resource in your shop.

9:30  – 10:30 am

Thread Milling Workshop – Conference Room E150-151
This program is intended to give you an understanding of thread milling, especially tips and tricks to achieve maximum performance. William Jubran of VARDEX USA will tell you when to use thread milling, and when to identify potential problems. A sound understanding of the thread milling concept will be the educational focus.

Green & Green Successes – Conference Room E161-162
Jim Tyree of General Plug and Manufacturing Co., Kevin Quay of BlueStar Energy Services, Inc., and Virgil Wilbur of Thomas & Betts Corporation will share the ‘green’ lessons they have seen and learned within shops like yours. The focus of this session will be on the payback that your company can receive by taking ‘green’ actions.

Innovations in Problem Solving – Conference Room E170-172
Life is a series of opportunities to solve problems; to solve them completely, effectively, and efficiently. This requires a systematic approach and the proper tools. Miles Free of the Precision Machined Products Association will review problem solving tools you can use and with a unique interactive approach. You will go home with tools you can use to solve the tough problems you face everyday in your shop.

Dan Murphy of Tsugami Rem Sales will discuss the latest technology available to help manufacturers of high precision parts. Mr. Murphy will show Tsugami’s newest flexible platforms and review strategies for manufacturers to dramatically reduce setup times and improve part quality.

Floor Demonstration with Davenport Machine Company – Booth 700
Everyone knows that Davenports have short cycle times. Come see Doug Larson demonstrate the enhancements and additional functionality that keeps today’s Davenport competitive.

Floor Demonstration with Schütte LLC – Booth 422
Schütte precision turning machines are complimented by their highly flexible CNC tool and cutter grinding machines. Stop by their demonstration to see Schütte illustrate the advantages of producing special cutting tools in house and in any lot size.
